Effects

General

Special sound effects can be set by making a double click on a file in a playlist or a sound choice. In the lower left part of the editor, you can turn them on and off and change their settings.

In each dialog with settings for an effect, you can listen to the file with all current effects. While it is played, you can't change the settings.

The last button at each effect can be used to use the current effect with its settings for all files in the playlist or sound choice.

Balance

With this effect you can choose whether the sound will appear to the left or to the right or somewhere in between. You can also select that it will appear randomly between two positions. Here, -10 means all to the left and +10 means all to the right.

Another alternative is to select that the sound shall move from one position to another while it is played. With a movement from -10 to 10, it will go from left to right; with a movement from 0 to -5 it will go from the center halfway to the left.

If you want to have more complex movement, you can also put the sound multiple times in a sequential list and set a special position for each.

You can't use the balance effect together with a fixed speaker assignment.

Pitch

With this effect you can change the pitch of the sound while its speed will remain the same. That way, you can turn a bell sound into several bells, or turn a single wolf into a pack.

The pitch can either be selected fixedly or randomly in a certain range.

Volume dB)

Here, you can change the volume again, but not in relation to the normally set volume, but in absolute steps. That way, it's also possible to play a sound louder than normal.

You can either select a fixed volume or let a volume be chosen randomly while playing.

Reverb

With this effect you can create a reverb like in a large room. The settings are somewhat more difficult to get right; you have to fit the delay to the length of the sound and normally you have to decrease the volume, and often, you'll have to play around a bit until it all fits. With a higher delay, you can in some cases create an echo, too.

Speakers

Here, you can assign the sound fixedly to one or two speakers, for instance to the left rear speaker in a surround system. You can also let the speaker be chosen randomly.

A free mixing of speakers or a movement from one speaker to another is unfortunately not possible. You also have to make sure that the speaker exists while playing, of course.

The assignment to a single speaker is only possible for mono files; if you get an error message while playing that the speaker is not available, the reason may be that the file is stereo. If you make a speaker assignment, you can't select a balance at the same time.

Tempo

With this effect you can change the speed with which a sound is played. The tempo is given in percent; values smaller than zero mean slower playing, values larger than zero mean higher speed. So, 0% is the original tempo and 100% is twice as fast.
